Natural Health Alternative - Meditation for Relaxtion
Meditation for beginners.
Meditation is a state of mind when your body and mind are consciously relaxed and focused. With regular practice you may experience increased awareness, focus, and concentration, as well as a more positive outlook in life, the Natural way. A good regular practice of any type of meditation is a great way to give yourself a boost anytime during the time.
Meditation is most commonly associated with monks, and in today's day in age maybe even yoga instructors and Tai Chi practitioners. However, you don’t have to be a monk or yoga master to enjoy its benefits. You can meditate anywhere during anything, in any place and, with enough practice, almost immediately feel the benefits.
There are many different ways to meditate, however the most important thing during meditation or when you are about to try to meditate is to remove obstructive, negative, and wandering thoughts and fantasies. This clears the mind of debris and prepares it for a higher quality of activity. This is a difficult trick to master, but I guarantee if you spend as little as 15 minutes a day trying to "clear your mind" for about a week you will be able to achieve the calm empty mind you desire for meditation.
Negative thoughts are some of the hardest to stop from thinking, especially if you are used to "reflecting" on all the negative events of the day. Do your best to remove yourself form this way of thinking for they contribute to having a "polluted" mind which prevents some of the deeper levels of meditation and relaxation.
Some people who practice meditation go so far as to create a sensory deprivation type of chamber. One where they hear no noise, see no sounds, and have nothing to touch. This allows them to concentrate more deeply and helps them reach a calmed state of mind much quicker. However for most of us, simply turning off the TV/radio, and removing yourself to another room with nobody around is just fine.
With today's new age ideas running around most people think the only way to meditate is by getting into some insane posture and attempting to stay that way. But don't fret, what you normally see is Yoga in some form or another. Much easier and enjoyable practices can be done with tai chi or qui gong (not sure on the exact spelling). Even theses are unnecessary. What you want to be is doing something comfortable that doesn't take up any thought. Such as sitting, lying down, even walking. Some people have very mundane jobs where they can meditate while they work (although I don't recommend this, since work can be a very distracting place). For starters just find a quite place to sit or lie, such as your bedroom or a quite reading room.
When relaxing to a comfortable spot there are a few things you should avoid when you want to mediate. Don't slouch your back or your posture, but don't be over tense either. Also do your best not to fall asleep, this is especially important if you are lying down. If this is the case then don't lie down as your meditation position,a t least not as you begin. When you get more experienced and you can control your state of mind better you should be able to return to a lying down position.
The best clothing to wear are loose, comfortable clothes. Since tight fitting clothes have a tendency grab you attention and may cause you unnecessary distractions.
As I said before, you want somewhere quiet with as few distractions as possible as your places to meditate. However you can have certain mediation scents, fragrances, to help enhance your relaxation and meditation.
The best thing you can do is focus. Find a spot on the wall, the ceiling, the floor, wherever to concentrate your eyes so that it is easier for you to focus. Although you will be staring at a spot it will not matter since you will be mentally focusing inwards.
If you are having a hard time releasing tension here is a quick trick to help you relax. First get into your comfortable position for meditation then focus and say softly you right foot then your left foot and go all the way up the body. As you name each body part focus on it with your mind and concentrate on the tension and feeling that tension get released.
Meditation is a simple and easy practice which you can start doing with little to no practice and being almost immediately to see the benefits. For more in depth techniques I suggest you look around you local area for social groups who practice meditation and talk to them before joining a class such as yoga or tai chi.
Studies have shown that meditation does have beneficial physiologic effects to the body and mind. Although the best way to find out what these are is o start practicing meditation for yourself and experience them!
